If you are a peeved Magic fan like me still bitter about Arron Afflalo getting passed over for the NBA All-Star Game this Sunday, this might be some welcome news.
Dwyane Wade, who has missed several games this year as the Heat try to manage his troublesome knee injuries before the Playoffs, was a late scratch from Wednesday's dramatic win over the Warriors. He said he was suffering from migraines in addition to his knee issues. Wade was introduced but decided not to play literally moments before tip off.
Wade told reporters in Oakland he suffered from a condition called "foot drop" which results in numbness in the foot. So add that to Wade's growing list of ailments.
He will travel to New Orleans for All-Star Weekend, where he was selected as a starter for the Eastern Conference by the fans. It is unclear whether he will play.
This is where the Magic's Arron Afflalo comes in. Of the Eastern Conference backcourt snubs, Afflalo is the only one that will be in New Orleans for the weekend. Afflalo will participate in the Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout on Saturday night. Lance Stephenson is not participating in any All-Star events so he would likely not be available as a last-minute replacement.
Of course, everything is in commissioner Adam Silver's hands. If Wade cannot go, Silver gets to name his replacement and convenience would obviously work on short notice.
The other part to it too is that since Wade appears like he will be such a late scratch and he can play a little bit, he could make a token appearance and sit out most if not all of the game. That would mean Wade would be in uniform and eligible to play. He would not need to be replaced.
This is likely what will happen. Both Anfernee Hardaway and Grant Hill made such token All-Star appearances when they were largely not willing to play and risk injury while they were with the Magic. There does not seem to be any reason for Wade to do anything different. The fans obviously want to see him.
There probably will not be a replacement made. But, who knows? Maybe Afflalo backdoors his way into the main event Sunday night.
@OMagicDaily nope look at magics record
@OMagicDaily not saying its right but its the reality of it. Stephenson woul probably make it over afflalo
@blocksnbooze I don't think Wade sits out though. Just makes a token appearance.
@blocksnbooze I read somewhere it was really close between Stephenson and Johnson. This late, it is about who you can get.
