Victor Oladipo found out who his teammates will be fore the BBVA Compass Rising Stars rookie-sophomore exhibition game Thursday (in somewhat controversial fashion) and found out a teammate will join him. Oladipo will play in Friday's game and then participate in Saturday's Taco Bell Skills Challenge obstacle course.
Arron Afflalo will also be making the trip to New Orleans after last week's snub. Afflalo will participate in the Foot Locker Three-Point Contest. He is shooting 42.7 percent from beyond the arc this season -- and he is especially deadly from the left side of the court.
The Magic certainly have more interest in the All-Star Weekend festivities now.
The night was not without some controversy during the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Draft.
Chris Webber took Victor Oladipo with the final pick of the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Draft on TNT's NBA Tip Off on Thursday night. A stunning fall for Oladipo in a game that means absolutely nothing.
Magic fans should be up in arms Oladipo spent this draft completely overlooked and falling down to the bottom of the Draft. Sure, Damian Lillard, Anthony Davis and Bradley Beal -- even Andre Drummond and probably Michael Carter-Williams -- you could make an argument for ahead of Oladipo in this Draft.
Somehow though, Chris Webber thought drafting Tim Hardaway Jr. ahead of both Trey Burke and Victor Oladipo was a good idea. He said during the broadcast that he made the pick because of his Michigan ties. Burke had the same thing going for him.
Oladipo will be on Webber's team. Aside from Hardaway and Burke, Webber also drafted Michael Carter-Williams, Anthony Davis, Jared Sullinger and Mason Plumlee before drawing Steven Adams and Kelly Olynyk. It is a balanced team with perhaps the three favorites for Rookie of the Year all on the same team. There will be plenty of opportunities for Oladipo to run and score some points.
Fans will vote for the starting lineups on the BBVA Compass Rising Stars page on NBA.com.
The other team, headed up by Grant Hill, consists of Damian Lillard, Bradley Beal, Andre Drummond, Harrison Barnes, Terrence Jones, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jonas Valanciunas, Dion Waiters and Pero Antic.
Oladipo will then participate in the Taco Bell Skills Challenge. This is the obstacle course competition that includes those weird hoopy things players have to pass through. The Magic have had only one other participant in this competition since it started in 2003 -- but Jameer Nelson was unable to participate in 2009 because of his injury.
The competition will also take on a new leaf this year as the NBA says it will be a two-man relay. The East competitors include Victor Oladipo, Michael Carter-Williams, Giannis Antetokounmpo and DeMar DeRozan. Trey Burke, Damian Lillard, Goran Dragic and Reggie Jackson make up the competitors from the West.
Afflalo will compete in the Three-Point Shootout, which is pretty self-explanatory. And he should have a good chance of winning going up against Damian Lillard, Kevin Love, Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, Joe Johnson, Bradley Beal and Marco Belinelli.
