There is a lot of excitment among Magic fans heading into the 2009-10 season, and with good reason.

The team is coming off a trip to the NBA finals, is loaded from top to bottom with talent and appears more than capable of making a deep run in the playoffs again.

With tonight's victory, the team is 5-0 on the preseason. That's an impressive feat, but I keep reading about how the team is "perfect" and "undefeated." While being 5-0 in preseason is sure a lot better than being 0-5, I still think we need to take a wait-and-see approach heading into the regular season.

Preseason means nothing. Players will tell you that outside of using it to get into game shape, it's not exactly something they take too seriously.

Preseason is a time when teams often tinker with potential lineups, starters play less and sometimes not at all and players are on the roster that won't even be with the team when real season starts.

That Magic also aren't going to sneak up on anyone this season, they're the defending Eastern Conference Champions, and will get the best that every other team in the East has to offer.

We also need to remember that the Magic will be without Rashard Lewis for the first 10 games of the season. Lewis was an all-star last season and even he struggled at times, we still don't know how the team is going to adjust to playing without their max contract player.

To summarize, 5-0 is cool, but let's chill with the "perfect" talk. The Magic are legit contenders now, and a good start in the preseason doesn't mean much.
