DeQuan Jones made his season debut Sunday night, scoring two points on one-for-three shooting. The 16 minutes were more of a cameo as Jacque Vaughn clearly felt more comfortable with Jones and the experience he had gained in the preseason and in practice.
Maurice Harkless should be set to join the roster and get his first court action very soon. Kyle O'Quinn has seen some time late in games so far this year. And Andrew Nicholson has played 9.0 minutes per game in two appearances and has fit into the rotation in the middle of the third quarter.
Yes, for the first time in a long time, the Magic are relying and depending on rookies for meaningful minutes and meaningful contributions. Vaughn said he wants to put the rookies in positions they can be successful and build confidence.
I will have a lot more on the rookies soon as I talked to Andrew Nicholson and Maurice Harkless before Friday's win over the Nuggets about their first games. There have been a lot of rave reviews about the rookies so far.
