Believe it or not, we are less than one month away from the first Magic preseason game. Orlando will open training camp on October 1 and open the preseason in Mexico City against New Orleans on October 7. So how will we get ready? By counting down to the beginning of the season on November 2 against Denver. Let's continue:
That can only mean one thing!
Get your shades, your awkward one-handed free throws and your ear-to-ear grin because today is all about Bo Outlaw!
The Magic acquired Bo Outlaw in 1997, signing him as a free agent. He has been a presence for the Magic pretty much ever since, even after the team traded him to the Suns with a 2002 1st round pick (which turned out to be Amar'e Stoudemire) in November 2001. Outlaw returned to end his career and then became a community ambassador. Just about every Magic fan just loves seeing him around and he makes the franchise so much better by his mere presence.
His stats are irrelevant, because he was not a player who amassed a lot of stats. Outlaw's work was an intangible one. One of energy and hustle. Outlaw was a player who thoroughly and truly just enjoyed playing basketball. He, in every sense of it, is truly the Magic's cult favorite as Evan Dunlap of Orlando Pinstriped Post named him earlier this summer.
That is why he remains one of the most beloved players in Magic history, with a love that only Magic fans can understand.
So just smile and enjoy this day... for Bo.
45 more days!
