Jason Williams to Undergo Arthroscopic Knee Surgery

Orlando backup point guard Jason Williams will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Thursday, according to the Orlando Magic. It is reportedly to clear out loose cartilage in his knee and he is expected to miss four weeks.

It would not be a training camp without someone get banged and/or bruised. Williams' age appears to be catching up with him and it is better to have him out now than later. Williams will essentially miss the entire preseason but the team is hopeful he will return for the regular season opener.

Luckily for Williams he has a year with Orlando under his belt. Williams played in all 82 games last year as Jameer Nelson's primary backup. He averaged 6.0 points per game and 3.6 assists per game.

Williams was expected to compete with free agent acquisition Chris Duhon to be the backup this year, but would most likely be the team's third guard. The good news, perhaps, coming out of this is that Stan Van Gundy can get really comfortable with Duhon in the game and figure out exactly what he has in his new acquisition.

Orlando opens the preseason Tuesday night in Hidalgo, Texas, against the Houston Rockets.
